We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It's a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.
We are choosing to use this day to honour someone or remember a loved one who is no longer with us. Giving Tuesday is one day after Linda Stapleton's Mum's birthday, on the 30th November. She was born in 1923 and if she were still alive would have been 92 this year, so Linda is kicking off this appeal by donating her age in dollars in memory of Herta Haynes aka Billy. She was one of the most loving and generous people she has ever known and was a Friend of Messef while she was alive. Let us know who you are making your donation for and we will list all the names at the end of the campaign. If you use PayPal you can add their name under special instructions or just let us know by email.
We want to take this opportunity when there are less residents to improve the facilities at Messef before encouraging the leaders to take in more orphans or children in need of care. As we have told you before, the Haitian authorities provide no help for orphanages but do monitor them quite closely. Donations made in this Appeal will be used to finish the floor and walls of the boys' dormitory (see earlier appeal) and carry out other much needed repairs and improvements at Messef.
As you can see, by the end of 2015 we achieved just over half our goal of US$5,000, with a splendid total of US$2,611 being donated for improvements at Messef.
Donations were made to the #GivingTuesday appeal by Blue Bell Woods Day Nursery, Laura, Mike, Pauline, Rhonda, Sandra, Susan, Trudy, Lissie and Matt at Vape it Easy. Jeanette nominated her grandchildren - Charlotte, Spencer, Ruby and Imogen - and Linda donated in memory of her Mum, Hetty (aka Billy) Haynes. Thank you all.
